Position Summary
Texas Materials is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Oil Distributor Operator to join our paving and roadway construction team. The Oil Distributor Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining asphalt distributor trucks used to apply asphalt emulsions, tack coat, prime coat, and other liquid asphalt products to roadway surfaces. This role is critical to ensuring proper surface preparation and quality paving operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating construction equipment preferred. Previous experience operating an asphalt distributor truck strongly preferred. Experience in asphalt paving, roadway construction, or heavy highway projects preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of asphalt paving operations and roadway construction practices. Understanding of asphalt emulsion application processes and material characteristics. Ability to calculate and maintain proper application rates. Knowledge of distributor truck controls, pumps, spray systems, and maintenance procedures. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members. Ability to work independently while maintaining production and safety standards. Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods. Ability to climb onto and off equipment regularly throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat. Ability to work around hot asphalt materials, moving equipment, and traffic.
Working Conditions
Outdoor road construction and paving environments. Exposure to hot asphalt products, dust, noise, fumes, vibration, and changing weather conditions. Work near moving traffic and active construction operations. Overtime, weekend work, and occasional night work may be required. Travel to various job sites within the assigned territory may be necessary.
